Chabad House of Hendon special guest Haran Wolfowitz Yaffe stands with Rabbi Gershon Overlander, Chabad House Director after Yaffe’s inspiring and moving talk to some 50 people last Sunday evening at Chabad House about his story of horrific injury and miraculous recovery.
After his APC had been hit by a Hezbollah missile in the 2nd Lebanon war, Yaffe had been declared dead by medics at the Israeli border. However a special trauma doctor noticed him gasping for air and whisked him away to Rambam Hospital in Haifa. INside the helicopter en entire team of trauma medics kept him alive until they reached the hospital. Despite having lost almost all his abdominal muscles, having been hit by over a hundred pieces of shrapnel initially being unable to walk, use his right arm, suffering enormous 3rd degree burns, Yaffe made incredible strides in his recovery and today has returned to a thriving musical career.
Ironically Yaffe had not been called up for action during the war and he only decided to force himself into his unit when a Hizbollah bomb hit his neighbour’s home in their small northern settlement. “No-one starts up with my mum!” quipped Yaffe!
His philosophy now? “You have to live life properly” said Yaffe “You have to be happy and live life to the full with happiness, excitement and enthusiasm.”
